02/09/2012 – The men's basketball team extended its winning streak to three as the Saints defeated Siena Heights on the road 82-51. The victory improved the Saints record to 14-13 overall and to 10-5 in league play, while Siena fell to 6-21 on the season and to 3-12 in the WHAC. Aquinas currently is perched in a three way tie for second in the WHAC with three league games to play.
The Saints, who traditionally struggle in Adrian, wasted little time in building a big first half advantage. Aquinas out shot their opponents 58%-22% and found themselves on the right side of a 43-20 halftime score. The Saints continued to dominate the paint in the second half and their lead reached its peak (31) as the final buzzer sounded. Aquinas shot 56% for the game and held a 44-29 advantage in the rebound department. The Saints also recorded 21 assists and only turned the ball over six times.
Zach Eddy headlined the Saints offensive attack as the post player continually found the "sweet spot" around the basket. Eddy paced the Saints attack with 25 points and nine rebounds. The junior from Stevensville connected on 11 of 16 field goal attempts. Joe Powers (11), Ken Gordon (11), and Tyler Moreland (10) all contributed double digit scoring efforts for the Saints, while Jake Shockey filled the stat sheet with seven points, eight assists, and nine rebounds.
Aquinas will return home to the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center for a key match-up with Concordia (14-13, 9-6 WHAC)on Saturday at 3 p.m.
