02/16/2012 – The women's basketball team was upended by Davenport by the count of 64-44 at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory improved the Panthers record to 25-4 on the season and to 15-2 in the WHAC, while the Saints fell to 15-13 overall and to 8-9 in league play. Aquinas is currently pegged in the sixth spot of the standings with one game to play.
The Saints, who were looking for some home cooking against the highly ranked Panthers, suffered through their share of shooting woes in the first half. Aquinas connected on 29% of their shots and faced a 39-19 deficit at the half. The combination of poor shooting and 25 turnovers led to the Saints demise. The two teams played even in the second half, but the damage was already done and the Panthers cruised to the 64-44 victory. The lone bright spot for the Saints was the play of Chelsea Matley who recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals.
The Saints will conclude the regular season with a home game versus Madonna (10-16, 7-10 WHAC) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
