03/20/2012 – The women's softball team was shutout by Ferris State in both halves of the twin bill contested in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs improved to 8-8 on the season with the victories, while the Saints fell to 9-8 on the year.
The first game was a pitchers dual between White of the Saints and Bowler from Ferris. The score was tied in the bottom of the sixth when the floodgates opened. A seven run sixth was more than enough for the Bulldogs as they collected an eight hit inning. Ashley White was credited with the loss, while Bowler shut down the Saints limiting them to three hits.
The night cap was almost a carbon copy of game one. The Bulldogs broke open a scoreless game in the fifth by scoring three and then adding four for insurance in the sixth. The Bulldogs received another fine pitching performance as Dunleavy shutout the Saints on four hits. Carlie Giarmo suffered the loss as she gave up six runs on seven hits during her five innings of work.
The Saints will return to action with their home opener on Thursday at Fuller Park versus Rochester (1-9).
