Giarmo Performs Perfect

03/23/2012 – The Saint's softball squad took two from Rochester College at Fuller Park in Grand Rapids. Aquinas improved their record to 10-8 overall, while the Warriors fell to 1-15.

The first game was dominated by the Saints. Carlie Giarmo pitched a perfect game in the team's home opener. The junior struck out five during the outing and brought her season record to 4-4. The Saints backed Giarmo up with excellent defense and timely hitting. Aquinas put up eight runs against the Warriors in five innings. Seniors Kim Lohman and Whitney Stratton lead the offensive onslaught with two hits a piece, while Stratton drove in three.

Game two started slower with neither team reaching base until Rochester's Reinke broke up the Warrior's hitless streak with a single to left field. The Saints answered in the third scoring four runs during a hit parade started by Lohman. Stratton, Stowell and Pickel all contributed by driving in runs. The Warriors eventually ended the shutout by scoring a run in the sixth, but not before the Saints had control of the game.

The softball team returns to Fuller Park to face Bethel College (4-7) today at 4 p.m.
