04/01/2012 – The women's softball team lost the first game but won the second game of their double header Saturday against Indiana University Southeast. The split brings the Saints' season record to 15-12 and the Grenadiers' record to 12-14.
The Saints fell short offensively in the first game. Senior, Whitney Stratton hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Saints an early lead. IU Southeast retaliated by scoring a run in the bottom-half of the first. In the third, the Grenadiers' own Mills hit a three run home run to aid in their 5-2 lead over Aquinas. Ashley Pickel of Aquinas had an RBI single in the seventh inning but, it was not enough and IU Southeast bettered the Saints 5-3 for the win.
The Saints' offense woke up the second game and poured on the runs. Lindsey Stewart had RBI singles in both the third and the fourth inning. The fourth inning also brought a Tubergen solo home run as well as an RBI double by Taylor Turcott. The next big inning for the Saints was the sixth. Stratton, Tubergen, and Lowe all contributed to the Saints lead with RBI's. The Grenadiers crossed the plate three times during the game but couldn't outdo the Saints' ten hits for nine runs. The 9-3 win brings pitcher, Becca Shineldecker's season record to 6-1.
