Saints Host Grand Rapids Open

04/01/2012 – The men's and women's track & field teams opened their outdoor season with a strong showing at the Grand Rapids Open. The meet was contested at Houseman Field with the Saints matched up against Davenport, Cornerstone, Hope, Calvin, and Lansing Community College.

The meet was highlighted by women's field performers Emily Smith and Alicia Dorko. Smith won the discus with a toss of 153-7 and automatically qualified her for the NAIA Outdoor Championships. Emily's performance ranks her third all-time in Aquinas history in the discus. Dorko was victorious in the pole vault and her leap of 11-9.75 automatically qualifies her for the outdoor championships. The Saints also received strong vaults from Jordan Gerard (14-5.25 - #4 All-Time) and Marika Rietsema (9-6.25 - #4 All-Time).

The Saints also earned nine other first place performances by:

100 Meter - Sam DeStefano (12.37)
100 Meter - Rumeal McKinney (10.95)
300 Meter - Ray Bordeaux (35.75)
1000 Meter - Dustin Heiler (2:30.51)
110 Hurdles - Erika Heston (15.94)
300 Hurdles - Caleb Uecker-Herman (40.1)
Women's 4x100 Meter Relay (48.75)
Men's & Women's 4x200 Meter Relay (1:29.5 & 1:46.82)

The Saints will return to action on Saturday when they will compete at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.
