04/05/2012 – The softball team earned a split with cross town rival Davenport to kickoff the 2012 conference season. Aquinas is now 1-1 in the WHAC and sports an overall record of 16-13, while Davenport's record sits at 19-11 on the year and matches the Saints 1-1 mark in the league.
The Saints fell victim to Davenport's opportunistic offense during game one of the twinbill. Aquinas was charged with three errors, including two in the decisive sixth inning. The Saints received a strong pitching performance from Ashley White (3-6), who allowed four earned runs in six innings of work. Aquinas offense was keyed by a Torie Lowe (2) home run in the second and a two run single by Lindsey Stewart in the top of the fifth. The Panthers struck for two runs in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and prevailed in game one 6-4.
The Saints returned the favor in game two by winning by the same 6-4 margin. Carlie Giarmo was credited with her seventh victory of the season as she allowed two earned runs and scattered four hits in seven innings of work. Giarmo also set down five Panthers via the strikeout. The Saints offense found its groove during the third inning. Trailing the Panthers 2-0, the Saints broke out for three runs and never trailed again. The big blow came on a two run single up the middle by Sadie Stowell. Aquinas added three more runs in the fourth on RBI's by Taylor Turcott, Ashley Milheim, and Ashley Pickel.
The Saints will return to action this weekend at they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois to take part in a two-day tournament hosted by Olivet Nazarene.
