09/29/2010 – The women's volleyball team earned a much needed victory as the Saints defeated Cornerstone three games to one in front of a packed house at Mol Arena. An estimated 800 fans were in attendance for the game, which featured a live performance and an 80's dance after the game. Mel Trotters Ministries was also a big winner as students, parents and volleyball fans brought in non-perishable food items for the food bank.
The Saints (7-10, 2-3 WHAC) broke open a competitive first game after Coach Rawles called a decisive time out to calm down his troops. Accurate serving and solid defense propelled the Saints to the 25-19 win in game one. The Golden Eagles responded and knotted the match up at one game apiece after a 25-17 win in game two. The combination of veteran leadership and freshman becoming more confident led the Saints to wins in the next two games (25-20 & 25-19) to net the much needed road victory.
Chelsea Phillips led the Saints attack as she recorded 13 kills and three blocks. Sarah LeClair led the Saints with 18 digs, while Katie Vander Meer stuffed the stat sheet with 38 assists, twelve digs and six kills.
Aquinas will be right back in action tomorrow as the Saints host Siena Heights (2-11, 0-5 WHAC) at Forest Hills Northern High School at 7:30 p.m.
