Coach Veal Nets Career Victory #200

08/29/2012 – The men's soccer team defeated Ohio Midwestern 9-1 to bring Coach Joe Veal his 200th career coaching victory. The offensive explosion lifts the Saints to a record of 1-0-1 on the year, while the set back drops the Rams to 1-1 on the young season.

The Saints built a 2-0 lead by the half on goals by Casey Higgason and Gabriel Mateo. Mateo's goal came with less than 30 seconds to play in the half and was assisted on by Enrique Padilla. Aquinas added to their lead in half number two and were able to rest their starters for a key contest today at St. Xavier.

An additional pair of goals were scored by Higgason to give Aquinas the 4-0 lead and Casey the hat trick. The goal parade continued during the midway point of the half as Justin Reamon, Mitchal Rosendall and Mateo found the back of the net to give the Saints a touchdown advantage. The Rams broke through in the 75th minute on a goal by Max Rosilies. Aquinas added late goals by Joey VanGessel and Mitch Pepper to close the scoring out at 9-1. The Saints out shot Ohio Midwestern 41-7 and used a trio of keepers to earn the victory. The goalkeeping crew was credited with three saves and one goal against.

Coach Veal's career record now sits at 200-155-25, while his slate at Aquinas currently stands at 97-38-8.

The Saints travel to Chicago today to battle the 25th ranked Cougars of St. Xavier (1-0) at 8 p.m.
