Saints Fall to #25 St. Xavier

08/30/2012 – The men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of St. Xavier 2-1 in Chicago, Illinois. The victory improves the Cougars record to 2-0 on the season, while the Saints evened their mark at 1-1-1 with the setback.

The Saints struck quickly under the lights at the Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on the campus of St. Xavier. Justin Reamon found the back of the net during the second minute of play to give Aquinas the early advantage. The goal was assisted on by Casey Higgason, who has notched seven points during the first week of the season.

St. Xavier's Luis Medina scored the equalizer at the 54:43 mark of half number two. The game remained tied at one until Marco Gutierrez scored on a header off a cross pass to give the Cougars the one goal advantage. The lead held until the final horn sounded to keep the Cougars perfect this season.

The Saints out shot St. Xavier 13-7, while both teams were credited with four shots on goal. Cougars keeper AJ Pfatschbacher was credited with the win, while Aquinas' Mike Sweers was issued the loss.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ohio t0 battle the #4 ranked Rio Grande Red Storm (1-1).
