Saints Suffer Overtime Loss

09/02/2012 – The women's soccer team was defeated by Marian University in overtime by the score of 2-1. The Knights improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Saints fell to 1-1.

The two teams played to a first half draw despite the fact the Saints recorded eight more shots than the Knights (11-3). The 0-0 tie was broken in the 62nd minute as Beth Rothrock of Marian converted the first goal of the game. Colleen Diemer was credited with the assist on Rothrock's goal. Aquinas battled back and received the equalizer from Heather Lewis with just under eight minutes to play in regulation. After 90 minutes of play the two teams were right back where they started so they headed for an overtime period. The Knights Tawni Trickey scored the game winner in the 94th minute to keep Marian undefeated in 2012. Overall the Saints out shot the Knights 21-8, but only could manage the one goal.

Marian's Madeline Weber allowed the one goal and was credited with five saves, while Aquinas' Jackie Gipe notched four saves and surrendered two goals.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois to play Olivet Nazarene (2-0).
