09/08/2012 – The men's cross country teams opened the 2012 season with a solid showing at the Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College. The men, who are ranked 13th nationally, placed 4th in the 19 team men's field. Overall the Saints were the top NAIA school in the field and were only defeated by Calvin, Grand Valley and Allegheny. The host Knights won the team championship, while Calvin senior Nick Kramer won the individual title with a time of 24:23.
The men, who finished with 137 points, were led by sophomore Grant Gunneson, who recorded a ninth place finish in a personal best time of 25:20. Brendan Moloney (23rd - 25:43) and Dan Foley (33rd - 26:00) finished in the second and third scoring positions for the Saints, while Stephen Glinski (42nd - 26:07) and true freshman Jacob Towne (43rd - 26:07) rounded out the scoring for Aquinas. Adding depth to the top seven were Geoff Albaugh (55th - 26:22) and Kevin Mahar (61st - 26:27).
The Saints will return to the course on Friday when they travel to South Bend to compete in the National Catholic Championships on the campus of Notre Dame University.
