Saints Stay Perfect On Home Turf

09/22/2012 – The men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five and kept their perfect record at home in tact with a 3-0 win over Northwestern Ohio. The Saints are now 6-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while the Racers opened conference play with a loss and fell to 2-5 overall.

Heath Somers, a senior from Portage, kick started the offense in the 20th minute as he delivered a rocket shot that eluded the keeper to give the Saints the early advantage. For Somers it was his fourth goal of the season. The lead stuck until early in the second half when Tyler Fischer scored his eighth goal of the season on a picture perfect set up from Casey Higgason. The Saints received insurance in the form of Casey Higgason goal in the 81st minute. On this scoring play it was Fischer returning the favor and setting up Casey's goal.

The Saints out shot the Racers 21-11, while Mike Sweers was credited with the shutout in net as he recorded six saves.

Aquinas will travel across town to battle the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone (4-2-1, 1-0 WHAC) on Wednesday in a key WHAC tilt. The Saints defeated their cross town rivals earlier in the year 1-0 in double overtime.
