10/03/2012 – The combination of Allison VanPatten and Kelli Sprenger proved to be the difference in the Saints 4-1 victory over Concordia. The dynamic duo combined to score four second half goals to ensure the Saints their first WHAC win of the year. The victory improved the Saints record to 5-6 overall and to 1-1 in the league, while the Cardinals fell to 3-6-1 on the season and to 0-1-1 in the WHAC.
After sleepwalking through the first half, Coach Fales rallied his troops and the Saints dominated play in the second half. The Saints turned to Kelli Sprenger after trailing 1-0 at the half. Sprenger's goal in the 52nd minute tied the score and energized the Saints. The score was made possible on an assist by Ryanne James. A little over five minutes later freshman Allison VanPatten connected on the eventual game winner. VanPatten was not finished as she struck again in the 70th minute to record her fourth goal of the season. The Saints added a fourth goal in 82nd minute as Sprenger tallied her seventh goal of the season. The final insurance goal was assisted on by Heather Lewis.
Jackie Gipe was credited with the victory as she recorded three saves in net, while her counterpart, Laura Beth Johnston notched 13 saves and allowed all four goals.
The Saints will travel to Livonia on Saturday to tangle with the Crusaders of Madonna (3-5,, 0-1 WHAC) at 12:30 p.m.
