Saints Fall on the Road at Madonna

10/06/2012 – The women's soccer team was doubled up by Madonna by the count of 4-2 on the Crusaders home turf. Madonna evened its mark in the WHAC to 1-1 and is currently 4-5 overall, while the Saints fell to 5-7 on the year and to 1-2 in league play.

The Saints, who are the reigning WHAC regular season champions, were scored upon during the 19th minute by Katelynn Krysiak to give Madonna the early advantage. Aquinas found the equalizer off the foot of Elizabeth Vaughan at the 21:34 mark of the first half. Vaughan's second goal of the season was scored off a free kick to tie the score at one. Madonna found the back of the net two more times before the intermission to give themselves the two goal lead at the break. Krysiak scored her second goal of the game during the 27th minute, while her teammate Ashley Parent recorded her seventh of the year at the 31:35 mark.

The lead swelled to three goals during the second half as Madonna's Jennifer Jurcak scored during the 61st minute of play. The Saints added a late goal by Madeline Rammal, but too little to late as the Saints were tripped up by the count of 4-2. Grace Robinson assisted on Rammal's third goal of the season.

The Saints out shot Madonna 10-8, but Crusaders goalie, Blaire Schmalenberg, came up big as she saved five shots on goal.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Davenport to tangle with the Panthers (10-2, 3-0 WHAC) at 4 p.m.
