10/06/2012 – The men's soccer team received a hat trick from Tyler Fischer to lead them to a runaway 5-1 win over Lawrence Tech. The victory lifted the Saints record to 3-1 in the league and to 8-3-1 overall, while the Blue Devils fell to 1-11 on the season and to 0-5 in WHAC play.
The home team wasted little time and staked claim to the early one goal advantage. Zach Whatcott set up Brandon Busuttil during the 11th minute of play to give Lawrence Tech the lead. The Saints acknowledged the wake up call and proceeded to rattle off five straight goals. Tyler Fischer started the barrage with his 10th goal of the season during the 33rd minute of play. Fellow junior, Mike Gagnon was credited with an assist on the Saints goal.
The second half began with scored tied at one, but soon would swing in the Saints favor thanks in part to Mitch Torres. Torres second goal of the season proved to be the eventual game winner. Tyler Fischer completed the hat trick with goals during the 79th and 81st minute to forge the lead to three goals. Casey Higgason and Juan Torres were given credit for the Saints third and fourth goals. Higgason added some insurance late to record his sixth goal of the season.
The Saints out shot the Blue Devils 28-7, while Mike Sweers notched three saves in net for the Saints.
Aquinas will return to action on Wednesday as they host Davenport (8-4, 4-1 WHAC) at 4 p.m. in a key WHAC showdown.
