10/17/2012 – The women's soccer team sent the seniors out in style as the Saints posted a 4-1 victory over Marygrove. The win improved the Saints record to 6-9 overall and to 2-4 in the WHAC, while the Mustangs fell to 1-4-1 in the league and to 6-8-1 on the season. The Saints are now in sixth place in the WHAC with two league games remaining.
The Saints picked "Senior Day" to put the brakes on their four game losing skid. The trio of Heather Lewis, Cortney Havens and Kelli Sprenger were honored by the coaching staff at halftime for their commitment and service to the Aquinas College women's soccer family.
Aquinas broke the ice during the 13th minute of play as Casey Westveer's perfectly played ball gave Melissa Hogan the goal scoring opportunity that she converted into her ninth goal of the season. The Saints added to their advantage at the 28:50 mark of the first half as Mikayla Goldsmith notched her first career goal as a Saint. Goldsmith's goal was assisted on by Kelli Sprenger. A little over a minute later the "Goldsmith Rush" continued as Mikayla found the back of the net to make the score 3-0.
The Saints maintained their three goal advantage until the 79th minute when the Mustangs' Kamry Miller scored an unassisted goal. Aquinas returned the favor late in the contest as Elizabeth Vaughan scored her third goal of the season off a Maggie Keiffer corner kick.
The Saints will look to make a late season surge as they return to the field on Wednesday with a road contest at Siena Heights (8-4-1, 2-3 WHAC).
