10/27/2012 – The men's soccer team used four Tyler Fischer goals to help Aquinas defeat Siena Heights 5-1 in the regular season finale. The victory improved the Saints record to 12-5-1 overall and to 7-3 in the WHAC, while Siena Heights fell to 2-6-2 in the league and to 4-9-3 on the season. Aquinas will enter the conference tournament as the second seed, while Siena failed to advance to the post season with a ninth place finish in the league.
This night belonged to Tyler Fisher who scored goals during the 11th, 19th, 31st and 35th minute of play. Casey Higgason assisted on three of the goals, while Heath Somers was credited with the fourth assist. Fisher, who now holds the record for points in a season, collected his fourth hat trick of the season. Tyler's 23 goals ranks him second nationally behind James Andersan (25) of Brescia (Ky.)
Jonathan Spencer added a late first half goal to give the Saints the 5-0 lead at the intermission. Somers was awarded the assist on the final goal of the half. Siena added a goal during the 89th minute, but too little too late as the Saints from Aquinas would prevail 5-1.
The combination of Mike Sweers and Tad Drabik recorded one save in the Aquinas victory. The Saints outshot their opponents from Adrian by the count of 20-8.
The Saints will now host Panthers from Davenport (8-8-1) in the quarterfinals of the WHAC Tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m.
