11/03/2012 – The men's soccer team advanced past Davenport and into the WHAC Tournament Semifinals with a 4-0 shutout over the Panthers. The victory improved the Saints record to 13-5-1 on the season, while Davenport's season came to a close at 8-9-1. The Saints will now host Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday to determine a berth in the WHAC Championship. The two teams will take the field at 2 p.m. on November 6th.
Tyler Fischer, who was recently named WHAC Offensive Player of the Year, kick started the Saints offense with a goal in the ninth minute of play. Heath Somers was credited with an assist on the eventual game winner. Michael Gagnon added a goal at the 12:28 mark of the half to extend the Saints advantage to two goals. Casey Higgason, a senior from Portage, notched his 12th assist of the year on Gagnon's goal.
Leading 2-0, the Saints continued to control the match an eventual added a third goal in the 55th minute of play. Fischer struck again as he recorded his 25th goal of the season with the assist going to Mitchal Rosendall. A fourth an final goal was turned in by Casey Higgason late in the second half.
The Saints held a 19-12 advantage on shots, while Mike Sweers earned the victory in net with six saves.
