11/03/2012 – The women's soccer team was defeated by Indiana Tech in the WHAC semifinal round of the conference tournament in Fort Wayne. The victory improved the Warriors record to 16-4 overall, while the Saints concluded their season with a mark of 8-10-1. Indiana Tech will now travel to Davenport on Friday with a berth to Nationals on the line.
After upsetting #3 seed Cornerstone on Thursday, the Saints were looking to keep their season alive against the #2 seed Warriors of Indiana Tech. Aquinas fell to the Warriors 3-1 earlier this season at home.
The Warriors scored first as Tori Singstock scored at the 8:48 mark of the first half. Singstock, who had been recently named the WHAC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year, was assisted on the goal by Natalia Salcedo. Aquinas was not rattled by the early goal and found the equalizer during the 30th minute of play. Kelli Sprenger with the help of Heather Lewis tied the match up at one. For Sprenger it was her team-high 14th goal of the season. The two teams finished off the half with no change on the scoreboard.
The second half was rolling along with the defenses stealing the show until Jess Stanton netted the eventual game winner during the 72nd minute of play. Stanton was set up on the play by Singstock. Indiana Tech now found themselves up one with the minutes winding down on the Saints season. Aquinas continued to battle, but could come up with another goal. Singstock added some insurance late and the Warriors prevailed 3-1.
Indiana Tech outshot the Saints 30-10 overall and 14-3 on goal. The Warriors Jordan Roell was credited with the victory as she recorded two saves, while Molly O'Connor notched eleven saves in defeat.
