11/28/2012 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Concordia in WHAC action from Ann Arbor by the count of 78-57. The victory improved the Cardinals record to 6-3 on the season and to 3-0 in league play, while the Saints mark fell to 4-4 overall and to 1-2 in the WHAC.
Concordia, who is currently ranked 17th in the latest NAIA poll, was powered by their all-everything performer, Abbey Hengesbach. The sophomore from Westphalia scorched the Saints for 20 points, ten rebounds and seven assists. Hengesbach led five Cardinals in double figures versus the Saints. A 55-36 rebound advantage proved too much for the Saints to overcome. The home team also shot the ball extremely well as they recorded 51% shooting, while the Saints converted on only 28% of their attempts.
The Cardinals victory was keyed by a 16-0 run during a three minute stretch in the first half to put the Saints scrambling the remainder of the contest. Shelby Carter led the Saints with 15 points, while Allison Heberlein pitched in with eleven points and five rebounds.
The Saints will return home on Saturday with a date versus UM-Dearborn (2-4, 2-1 WHAC) at 1 p.m.
