12/05/2012 – The women's basketball team received double-digit scoring efforts from four individuals to defeat Lourdes 75-69. The victory improved the Saints record to 6-4 overall and to 3-2 in league play, while the Wolves fell to 1-4 in the WHAC and to 3-7 on the season.
The Saints, who are currently in a five-way tie for third place in the WHAC, traveled to Bowling Green, Ohio to play in the Wolves home away from home. The Stroh Center, the normal home of the Bowling Green Falcons, played host to the two WHAC institutions on this night.
This contest could easily been coined, "the tale of two halves". A strong first twenty minutes propelled the Saints to a 49-27 halftime lead. Coach Nash had her team ready our of the gates as Aquinas connected on 19-38 field goals in the first half. A 16-4 spurt in the halves final five minutes gave the Saints ample breathing room.
The two teams traded baskets for the first fifteen minutes of half number two with the Saints keeping a 20 point lead with five minutes to play. The storyline suddenly turned and the Wolves mounted a ferocious comeback. The Wolves proceeded to score 18 of the games final 22 points, but ran out of time as the Saints held on for the six point victory.
Allison Heberlein led four Saints in double figures with 19 points, while Clare Conway chipped in with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Shelby Carter and Carley Bardwell contributed twelve and ten points respectively. The Wolves were led by Emily Orsini's 15 points.
The Saints will return to the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center on Saturday to host Marygrove (1-8, 0-5 WHAC) at 1 p.m.
