12/08/2012 – The men's basketball team continues to show signs of life as the Saints defeated Marygrove 77-55 and have now won three of their last four. The victory improved the Saints record to 4-9 on the season and to 3-3 in the WHAC, while the Mustangs fell to 1-5 in league play and to 1-11 overall. The Saints now find themselves in a four-way tie for fifth in the WHAC standings.
Austin Semple's strong play in the first half propelled the Saints to a 39-25 lead at the intermission. The junior transfer from Zeeland West High School sparked the Saints by scoring eleven of his 15 points during the games initial 20 minutes. The Saints, who connected on 50% of their field goals during the game, pushed the lead to as many as 28 points in the games waning moments. The Saints out shot the Mustangs 50%-35% and dominated the paint outscoring their opponents 38-10. A large slice of those "points in the paint" came from Aquinas big man, Zach Eddy. Eddy also recorded 15 points, while connecting on 6-9 of his field goal attempts. Brett Pfahler also reached double figures as he netted eleven points.
The Saints will return to action with a non-league road date on Wednesday at Grace Bible College (6-8) starting at 7:30 p.m.
