12/16/2012 – The Saints recorded 19 personal bests and achieved one school record in their last competition before the Christmas holiday.
Alicia Dorko's performance in the pole vault highlighted the activities as the junior from Schoolcraft jumped 11-11.25 to break her previous school record (11-9.25). Dorko automatically qualified for the indoor championships and is currently ranked first in the NAIA in her specialty event.
Emily Smith also starred for the Saints as the Port Huron native established two qualifying marks in the throwing events. Smith's toss of 55-2 in the weight throw currently ranks her second in the country and automatically qualifies her for the indoor championships in March. Smith also hit a provisional mark in the shot put as she recorded a 41-7 in the event. Hurdle ace, Erika Heston, improved her provisional mark by crossing the line in 9.19 to lead the Saints hurdle crew.
On the men's side Alvaro Romero won the long jump (23-7.5) by almost two feet and placed fifth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.13. The Saints also received break through performances from Michael Shearon and Andrew Vojtko. Shearon placed second in the high jump with a new personal best of 6-6.25, while Vojtko led the Saints middle distance runners in the 600 meters with a second place finish (1:24.78).
The Saints will return to action on January 5th as they travel to Calvin College for a post holiday match-up with the Knights.
