10/13/2010 – The men's soccer team defeated cross town rival Cornerstone 2-1 in WHAC soccer action today. The victory improves the Saints record to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Golden Eagles slip to 0-1-1 in the WHAC and 4-6-2 overall.
Freshman Mitch Torres netted his third goal of the season in the 24th minute to give the Saints an early one goal advantage. The score remained 1-0 until Ruben Ornelas-Luna scored the eventual game winner off a free kick that he angled past the Cornerstone keeper in the 76th minute of play. Ruben's goal was also his fifth of the season. The Golden Eagles added a goal late in the second half by Jordan Wilson, but it was not enough as the Saints prevailed 2-1. Jesse Guevara-Lehker was awarded the win as recorded three saves.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Adrian to play host Siena Heights (7-5-1, 0-1-1 WHAC) at 3 p.m.
