01/14/2013 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Madonna by the count of 78-52 in WHAC action from the Activities Center in Livonia. The victory improved the Crusaders record to 11-7 on the season and to 7-4 in league play, while the Saints fell to 5-6 in the WHAC and to 9-8 overall. Aquinas currently finds themselves tied with Indiana Tech for sixth place in the WHAC standings.
The Saints, who were looking to string back-to-back league victories together, found themselves in an early hole across enemy lines. A 19-4 ambush out of the gates left the Saints reeling for the duration of the game. Aquinas would close to within a dozen points on various occasions, but the Crusaders defense kept the Saints in check.
Aquinas found the foul line especially troublesome on this night as the Saints converted 37% (10-27) from behind the charity stripe. Coupled with 33% shooting from the field the Saints were not making the task at hand any easier.
Marissa Marx scored 17 points to lead the Saints in scoring. Marx converted on 5-7 from beyond the three point arc. Kaylee McGrath paced three Crusaders in double figures with 20 points.
The Saints will return home to face Siena Heights (12-7, 8-4 WHAC) at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center on Wednesday. The Saints from Adrian won the first meeting of the season 80-49 back in November.
