10/17/2010 – The men's soccer team notched a road victory at Siena Heights yesterday 2-1 to stay atop of the WHAC standings. Aquinas improved to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the WHAC, while Siena Heights dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the league with the loss.
Siena Heights received a goal from Doug Dawson early in the first half to give the Saints from Siena an early 1-0 lead. After trailing at the halftime break, Aquinas tied the score on header by Mike Vaughan (8th goal of the season) off a corner kick by Ruben Ornelas-Luna. In the 82nd minute of play, Jeovani Pantoja scored his tenth goal of the season to give the Saints the one goal advantage. Pantoja's goal proved to be enough as the Saints held onto the 2-1 victory.
The Saints goalie, Jesse Guevara-Lehker, was credited with the victory as he stopped seven shots on goal.
Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as they host Madonna at 3 p.m.
