Volleyball Opens Sturrus With Victory

10/18/2010 – The women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches as they defeated Purdue North Central in three games. The Saints victory improves their overall record to 14-11 on the season, while Purdue North Central falls to 18-11.

The match marked the first ever athletic event held in the new Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The Saints, who received contributions from all team members, wasted little time in establishing a home court advantage as Aquinas won the first two games by identical 25-14 scores. The third game was a little more competitive with the Saints outlasting the competition 28-26. Jessica Curtis led the Aquinas attack with twelve kills, while Katie Vander Meer collected 19 assists. Defensively Sarah LeClair paced the Saints with 17 digs and the duo of Chelsea Phillips and Mollie Lounds combined for nine blocks.

The Saints will return to action tomorrow night as they travel to play host UM Dearborn (10-20, 2-8 WHAC) at 7 p.m.
