03/07/2013 – The first winter installment of the NAIA Learfield Director’s Cup standings has been released and Aquinas is currently in 14th place with 283.5 points. This set of standings includes all fall sports and men's wrestling, men's and women's track and field and men's and women's swimming. Oklahoma Baptist currently holds the top spot with 650 total points after winning four of the five championships recently contested.
The Learfield Director’s Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports - six women's and six men's.
The men's track & field teams added 70.5 points based off their recent eighth place finish at the Indoor National Championships. The women's track & field team placed 30th at the Championships accounting for 44 additional points.
In addition the Saints had already received 75 points for their fifth place finish in men's cross country, while the women accounted for 69 points based off their seventh place performance at the NAIA National Championships in Fort Vancouver, Washington. The men's soccer team accounted for 25 points based on their qualification for the NAIA Championships.
Aquinas remains the highest WHAC institution in the Director's Cup standings. Indiana Tech is currently in 20th place with 232.75 points, while Cornerstone checks in at #24 with 206.25 points.
The final winter standings will be released on March 21st and will include men's and women's basketball.
