03/24/2013 – The men's baseball team picked up a trio of wins to kickoff the WHAC portion of their 2013 regular season schedule. The victories improved the Saints to 10-4 on the season and to 3-0 in league play, while the Gray Wolves fell to 0-3 in the WHAC and to 8-12 overall.
The Saints notched a 10-1 victory in game one on Saturday. A six run ninth capped off a solid offensive showing by Aquinas. Michael Penny tallied three hits, while the trio of Nick Kissane, Josh Drake and Kyle Orlowski all collected two RBI's a piece. Vince Misiewicz was credited with the victory as the right-hander gave up one earned run on six hits in eight innings of work.
The back half of the doubleheader proved to be more hotly contested as the Saints would need two runs in the seventh to score the 5-4 come from behind victory. A hit, a couple of walks and a pair of errors were the difference in the decisive inning. Elliot Drain paced the offense with two hits and three RBI's, while Brendan Penny was awarded the victory in his six innings of work. Penny struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on four hits. Tyler Cole picked up his first save of the year as he closed the door on the Gray Wolves in the bottom of the seventh.
The Saints would complete the sweep by defeating Lourdes 13-2 in seven innings. Kevin Schafer improved to 2-0 on the season as the lefty allowed one earned run and one hit in five innings of work. Michael Penny, Kyle Orlowski, Nick Kissane and Austin King all tallied two hits, while Josh Drake collected three RBI's on a bases clearing double in the fifth.
The Saints are now scheduled to host Davenport on Wednesday at Kimble Field (11-6, 0-0) at 2 p.m.
