03/29/2013 – The women's lacrosse team ran their winning streak to five with a 16-10 victory over the Hope College Flying Dutch. The win improved the Saints record to 6-3 on the season, while Hope fell to 1-6 in their inaugural season as a varsity sport.
Familiar faces kick started the Aquinas offense as Alex Burns and Kati Rogers scored early in the contest to give the Saints a two goal lead. Rogers struck again as did Lauren McCarty to build the Aquinas advantage to 4-1. The Flying Dutch would rally as Molly Greenfield led the attack to even the match at four a piece. McCarty and Taylor Truttshcel added late first half goals to give the Saints (7-5) some breathing room at the half.
Midway through the second half, with the Saints holding a 10-8 advantage, Aquinas' Lauren McCarty and Alexandra Burns salted the game away with four consecutive goals to put the Saints up six goals. The defense did the rest as Breanne Stockall was credited with the win in net with her 15 saves. Both Burns and McCarty netted five goals on the day.
The Saints will return to action today with a match with Loras (0-5) at 10 a.m.
