09/11/2013 – The women's volleyball team was defeated by Cornerstone in four sets at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-7 on the season, while the Saints fell to 1-2 overall.
The Saints, whose thoughts and prayers have been with Dayle Wood and her family over the last few days, came out with spirited play during the first set. Aquinas' efficient play led to a 27-25 set victory. The Saints continued to dig deep and play inspired volleyball, but was not quite enough as Cornerstone won the final three sets (25-21, 25-15 and 25-21).
MacKenzie Kolstad led the Saints with 13 kills, while Elle Sturgell and Molly Maynard struck for 12 and nine respectively. Nicci Thomas anchored the offense with 31 assists, while Rachel Spenger notched 14 digs in the defeat.
The Saints will begin conference play this weekend as they travel to Northwestern Ohio (7-1, 1-0 WHAC) on Saturday and Indiana Tech (2-10, 1-0 WHAC) on Sunday. Aquinas will tangle with the Racers at 3 p.m. in Lima, while the Saints and Warriors are scheduled for a Noon start on Sunday.
