09/21/2013 – The women's cross country team placed 3rd out of 26 schools at the National Catholic Championships. The meet was contested on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Lewis University won the team title in the non-division one race, while Emily Frith of Bellermine crossed the finish line first in a time of 17:42.
The women, who finished with 144 points, were led by junior Rachael Steil, who recorded a 11th place finish in a time of 18:52. The duo of Emily Hazelbach (19:21) and Catie Rietsema (19:25) continued to solidify the front of the Saints pack. Rounding out the scoring for the Saints was Kelsey Carpenter who placed 39th in a time of 19:40 and Kathy Middaugh who followed Carpenter into the chute at 19:41. The Saints were the top NAIA and WHAC school at the championships.
Aquinas will return to the course in a two weeks when they take part in the LCC Invitational hosted by Lansing Community College.
