09/21/2013 – The women's soccer team withstood a late rally by Indiana Tech to pick up an all important road victory within league play. The win improved the Saints record to 4-2 on the season and to 1-0 in the WHAC, while the Warriors slipped to 4-3-1 overall and to 0-1 in conference play.
Aquinas' offense used a quick start to nab the early advantage. Cami Baker scored her second goal of the season during the 8th minute of play. Baker's goal was assisted on by Allison VanPatten. The scoreboard stayed at 1-0 until a late first half goal by Khrystal Lewis gave the Saints a two goal cushion. Lewis' goal was her first in an Aquinas uniform.
The 56th minute of play saw the Saints add a goal off a corner kick by Mikayla Goldsmith. Goldsmith tallied her second assist of the year on a converted header by Allison VanPatten. VanPatten is currently leading the Saints in goals (4) and assists (2). Indiana Tech mounted a comeback scoring goals in the 66th and 79th minute, but the Saints held on for the 3-2 victory.
Molly O'Connor was credited with the victory in net as the sophomore from Okemos recorded nine saves.
The Saints will return to the field on Saturday as Aquinas hosts Cleary College on Homecoming Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
