09/29/2013 – The women's soccer team delighted the homecoming crowd by posting a 7-0 decision over Cleary College out of Howell. The victory improved the Saints record to 5-2 on the season, while the Cougars fell to 2-10 in the inaugural campaign.
In less than a four minute stretch, early in the first half, the Saints scored a trio of goals to give themselves some early breathing room. Leeann Latsch notched her second of the year during the 10th minute of play, while Elizabeth Vaughan and Cami Baker added their third scores of the season during the flurry. Latsch tallied her second goal of the game during the 22nd minute which proceeded Samantha Houchlei first goal as a Saint at the 29:32 mark of the first half.
Aquinas continued to add more scores in the second half as a Ali Mancini's goal during the 65th minute extended the Saints lead to six. The final scoreboard change was courtesy of Casey Westveer at the 70:45 mark of the match. The Saints seventh goal of the match was Westveer's second of the season.
The Saints out shot the Cougars 30-4 and held a distinct advantage in corner kicks (10-2). A trio of Saints combined for the shutout in net as Lindsay Armstrong led the way with two saves. Paige Colosimo, the Cleary keeper, tallied eleven saves in the defeat.
Aquinas will now travel to Ann Arbor for a date with Concordia (7-3, 1-0 WHAC) on Wednesday.
