09/29/2013 – The men's soccer team used a balanced attack to pick up the victory over conference foe Lawrence Tech on Homecoming Saturday. The victory improved the Saints record to 9-1 overall and to 2-1 in league play, while the Blue Devils fell to 1-9 overall and to 0-3 in the WHAC.
After twenty plus minutes of scoreless soccer it was Aquinas' Aldony Mendez who found the back of the net first. Mendez's 9th goal of the season was quickly followed by another score by Michael Gagnon during the 25th minute of play. Gagnon's second score of the season was assisted on by fellow senior Tucker Hogarth. The Saints closed the scoring in the first half a perfectly timed give-and-go between Peter Brandenburg and Mitch Torres. Torres' third goal of the season gave the Saints a 3-0 halftime lead.
Jonathan Spencer tallied his sixth of the season at the 55:08 mark of the second half to close the scoring for Aquinas. A late goal by Lawrence Tech's Tyler Jugon spoiled the shutout for Aquinas. The Saints outshot the Blue Devils to the tune of 25-11. Craig Demshuk was deemed victorious in net as he collected seven saves during his 61 minutes of work, while his counterpart, Josh Lance, collected six saves in the defeat.
The Saints will return to the pitch on Tuesday when they travel across town for a match against Grace Bible (3-4).
