10/01/2013 – The men's soccer team started a three game road trip on a winning note by defeating Grace Bible 4-0. The victory improved the Saints record to 10-1, while the Tigers fell to 3-6 on the season. Aquinas currently sits in a tie for second place in the WHAC standings.
The Saints used three first half goals to quickly gain a stranglehold in the battle between the two soccer squads. A successful header by Matt Jackson off a free kick by Juan Torres started the offense in the 11th minute of play. Jonathan Spencer, who has been on a season long scoring tear, added his seventh of the season at the 19:05 mark of the half. Aldony Mendez was credited with his sixth assist of the season on the Spencer goal.
Speaking of Mendez, Aldony added his 10th and 11th goals of the season during the 20th and 63rd minute of play. Both goals were unassisted and Mendez now has 28 points (11 goals and 6 assists) on the season. Trevor Kay gave Craig Demshuk the night off in net and collected three saves to earn the shutout. The Saints outshot the Tigers 20-9.
Aquinas will now travel to Livonia to battle Madonna (4-5, 2-2 WHAC) on Friday starting at 5 p.m.
