Description of Program:
Doing Justice in Denver is a new program that connects students of Dominican Colleges and Universities with the Dominican Family in Denver Colorado through prayer, study, community and service. Aquinas College students will be the first to experience this ministry opportunity. The students will live in a Dominican house and minister with people who are homeless and vulnerable in the Denver area.

Description of Services:
Each student will spend four days giving service at the following locations: Habitat for Humanity (two days), Earthlinks (one day), Fr. Woody’s Haven of Hope (one day). Dates for this trip are March 6-15, 2009.

Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver believes that everyone, everywhere deserves a decent place to live. It's a simple idea that changes lives. It changes families. It changes communities. Ultimately, it is an idea that is changing the world - one home, one family at a time. We invite you to join us... working together we can build great things. Construction volunteers build houses every week.

Fr. Woody’s Haven of Hope is run by the Franciscan Friends of the Poor. It’s ministry is to provide food, shelter, clothing, counseling, rehabilitation and hygienic services to the homeless and indigent. Since their inception, they have provided showers, haircuts and laundry services for their homeless guests. Students will be involved in helping with laundry, handing out toiletries, end of day clean up, lunch preparation, lunch service, and dining room clean up.

EarthLinks connects people who are homeless and low-income with the natural world for mutual benefit of both the person and the planet. EarthLinks offers innovative programs, providing healing adventures, sense of community, and support toward empowering life changes. Students will accompany homeless people on nature trips and will prepare snacks and materials for the trips.
|

In the evenings, delve into the issues of homelessness in America and Earth Literacy through guest presenters, videos, prayer and reflection. Dominican Sisters and Priests who minister in Denver will share their stories. There is a planned visit to the Catholic Worker House in Denver. For the adventure seekers there will be hiking in the Rocky Mountains and tubing at the Copper Mountain Tubing Hill. Students can also explore Denver, the Mile High City and other attractions in the area.

Living Arrangements:
The group will stay in a Dominican House in Denver. Students will make their own breakfasts and lunches. Dinner will be provided, but students will help in the clean-up.

Financial Arrangements:
The cost for this trip is $250 for each student. This covers room and board while in Denver as well as van rental and gas. Students are asked to bring spending money; money for meal stops to and from Denver and $24 for tubing at Copper Mountain’s Tubing Hill.

Payment Process:
| A NON-REFUNDABLE program fee of $250 will be charged to your student account. If you are not accepted, the charge will be cancelled. If you are accepted, you will be responsible to pay your program fee through your student account.
