"Live simply, that others might simply live."

Description of Program:
Habitat for Humanity believes in "the theology of the hammer." That is, true faith must be acted out. "The theology of the hammer" dictates that the nail be hit on the head - literally and repeatedly - until the house is built and the family moves in. It means too, that continuing love and concern must be shown to the family to ensure success as a new homeowner.
Habitat for Humanity's goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth. All their words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become morally, socially, politically, and religiously unacceptable.
Houses are sold at cost with a zero-interest, 20-year mortgage. Each homeowner/partner is required to contribute hundreds of sweat equity hours.

Description of Services:
Aquinas students and their advisor travel to Baldwin, Michigan to build homes with the Lake County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The group becomes part of this working community for one weekend. Throughout the course of the weekend, the group performs light construction work to complete houses. Habitat for Humanity weekend is scheduled for September 12-14, 2008.
