Description of the Program:
Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II is a mission of the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin, founded in 1986 by Father Joseph Walijewski, originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Many children call Casa Hogar their home, and they are given faith, family, and a chance at the promising future they deserve. Casa Hogar uses the same methods as the famous Girls & Boys Town, and has become a leader in the treatment and care of orphaned and abandoned, and abused children of Peru. The mission of Casa Hogar is "to deliver high quality care and services to the at-risk youth of Peru, rescuing them from potential threats and rehabilitating them for a more promising future."

Description of the Services:
Casa Hogar (Sponsored by the Casa Hogar student club) - Students travel to Lurin, Peru to meet and visit with the children of Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II Orphanage. Each year a project focus area is chosen and the Aquinas group works throughout the year to generate awareness and raise funds for Casa Hogar. Dates for this trip are May 12-22, 2009.

Living Arrangements:
Aquinas students will stay in a guest section of the orphanage near to the children. All meals are included while the students are at Casa Hogar and are taken in the dining hall and sometime with the families. There is Internet access on site. Aquinas students are encouraged to spend time getting to know individual children and spend time in the families.

Financial Arrangements:
The student cost for the trip is approximately $1,200. Participants are responsible for their own passports. Immunizations are not included in the cost as they vary depending on one’s health insurance. Fundraising and support letters can help provide students with funding for the trip. Individual participants should bring some spending money.
