Description of Program:
Re-Member is a faith-based organization that exists to recall our country's treatment of the Indian people and to repair the broken pieces of that relationship. Re-Member is located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota. Guided by the aspirations of the Oglala Lakota Indian communities, Re-Member seeks to improve the quality of reservation life through relationships, shared resources and volunteer services.

Description of Services:
Through site visits, cultural immersion and service, Aquinas students demonstrate solidarity with the Indian people of Pine Ridge. The major project is making, transporting and placing bunk beds for the children of the Reservation. Next to the severe housing shortage; the greatest physical need on the Reservation is a place to sleep. The group will also complete various maintenance projects such as home repairs, painting, mowing and trimming. Finally, the group also prepares and serves meals. Students should be willing to work and more importantly open to meeting new people and learning more about the Lakota culture. Unemployment in the area is 80-90% and per capita income is $3,400. This Service-Learning trip is from October 16-24, 2009.

Living Arrangements:
Participants will stay on the Reservation in simple housing. Participants are asked to abide by all Reservation guidelines. Life on the "Rez" is early to bed, early to rise.
