Cerebral Palsy statistics show that approximately 8,000
infants up to 18 months of age, and approximately 1,500 preschoolers,
are
diagnosed with cerebral palsy each year.
- Approximately 500,000 people in this country have some degree of
cerebral palsy.
- This year in Kent, Ottawa and Allegan counties, we estimate that
approximately 50 children will be born with cerebral palsy.
- Spina bifida affects approximately one out of every 1,000 newborns
in the United States.
- According to the Spina
Bifida Association of America, spina bifida
is the most frequently occurring permanently disabling birth defect.
- Peto Institute officials published statistics in 1995 that indicated
approximately 75 percent of the children who participated in the
program before their first birthday were able to integrate with their
peers by 3 to 6 years old.
