>AQ Artists Participating in ArtPrize 2013
What is ArtPrize?

"ArtPrize is a radically open competition. Open to any artist in the world who can find space. Open to anybody in Grand Rapids, Michigan who wants to create a venue. Open to a vote from anyone who attends." >Visit ArtPrize.org

This year 1,524 artists are displaying their works in 169 downtown Grand Rapids locations (within a 3-square-mile radius). The competition runs from September 18 through October 6, 2013. Artists will be competing for $560,000 in prizes - $360,000 awarded by public vote, and $200,000 awarded by a professional jury.

Aquinas College is proud to be a sponsor of ArtPrize 2013.

ArtPrize 2013 marks the fourth competition that AQ alumna Liz Hertl '10, a fine arts major, has been working with the Diocese of Grand Rapids and their Cathedral Square showcase venue.

“I started working with Cathedral Square for ArtPrize immediately after graduation, in 2010 and have returned to my role on the ArtPrize team for four years," said Hertl. "From 2010-2012, I worked in the guest services department at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM). In April 2013, I completed a 6 month internship with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland in the curatorial department. After completing my internship, I started my new position as curator and communications coordinator at ArtPrize for Cathedral Square.”

Liz also continues to foster an ongoing relationship between Aquinas College and the Diocese of Grand Rapids. “Liz brings a creative, fresh point of view and has done a great job of coordinating ArtPrize at Cathedral Square," said Carl Apple, Director of Communications for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. "She’s attracted exhibits that we think our guests are really going to enjoy. Having a partnership with Aquinas means working with Liz and other alumni who not only know the Grand Rapids Catholic community, but have instant connections to talented local artists.” >Read More
