AQUINAS WELCOMES RENOWNED PIANIST SCOTT KIRBY - Feb 20, 2002
February 20, 2002 - Grand Rapids, Michigan (February 20, 2002) -- On Tuesday, February 26, the Aquinas College Music Department, along with Ernest Bud Kretschmer, welcomes back Scott Kirby, one of the best interpreters of ragtime piano music on the scene today. Mr. Kirby specializes in distinctly American genres which unite the worlds of classical and folk music, including Terra Verde, early jazz, Classical Ragtime and Creole compositions from South America and the Caribbean.
A performer and educator, Kirby speaks with his audience and provides historical context and musical insight into the program as it unfolds. As a composer, Mr. Kirby weaves strains from American roots music together with European Romanticism into a syncopated language all his own. He has recorded over 23 CDs covering a wide range of styles, composed over 125 pieces and is published in Piano Today Magazine. Scott is leading the way toward an irresistible new keyboard literature that has its roots in the past and its eye on the present.
Please join us for this unforgettable evening with Scott Kirby, Tuesday, February 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Kretschmer Recital Hall of the Art and Music Center of Aquinas College. This event is free and open to the public.
