Description of Program:
The Edmundite Mission Corps is a community of volunteers who "seek to minister to those who would otherwise have no one to minister to them." The Edmundite community carries out this mission through a commitment to live a simple lifestyle in a Christian community and through offering service to the poor. Out of this experience grows a greater understanding of the needs of the poor, a deeper commitment to the Church's mission of promoting social justice, and a fuller experience of one's own spirituality.

Description of Services:
Students spend one week in Selma, Alabama, working with the poor through Edmundite Mission Corps in order to develop a greater understanding of their needs, a deeper commitment to the Church's mission of promoting social justice, and a fuller experience of their own spirituality. Edmundite Mission Corps places individuals in service areas according to their talents and interests, possibly including: construction and renovation projects, youth work, tutoring, working at a health clinic, and providing adult day care. Students also learn about the civil rights movement and work with the African-American community in a health clinic, tutor or assist in renovation projects. This program also involves learning about the history of the people in Selma through films, speakers, community building and reflection sharing. The trip will also include a trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. This trip is scheduled March 7-14, 2009.

Living Arrangements:
The group stays in a volunteer guesthouse. The majority of meals will need to be prepared by the Aquinas group.

Financial Arrangements:
The cost for this trip is $150 for each student, which goes toward the cost of transportation, room, board and supplies needed in Selma. Food in Alabama is also covered under this fee. Participants are asked to bring their own spending money for food on the way to and from Alabama.

Payment Process:
A NON-REFUNDABLE program fee of $150 will be charged to your student account. If you are not accepted, the charge will be cancelled. If you are accepted, you will be responsible to pay your program fee through your student account. Note: Even if you withdraw from the program, after being accepted, you are still responsible for the payment. Student Account policies apply to any unpaid balances.
