2007-2008 Recipients |
with excerpts from their winning essays |
| Alexander Jacobsson (Study Abroad Award Winner) |
As a Communication major, I want to learn as much about the Irish culture as I can (and other cultures I encounter in Europe) and will enjoy communicating with a society that is so different from my own. While Ireland is similar to America, the rural lifestyle of the Tully Cross community will make living in Ireland an interesting cross-cultural experience. I am also excited to learn about the culture of my family's past as part of my family history lies in Ireland. I hope to meet many new people, learn about their lifestyles, and develop many alliances with people throughout Europe.

| Angela Lachniet (Study Abroad Award Winner) |
| Studying in Japan will give me the time I need to fully immerse myself in a language and culture different from my own, and it will be interesting to see how my perspective will change on world events, history or even the smaller things, like friendships. By studying in Japan, I will learn a beautiful language, see the history books come alive, and learn so much from new friends there. This opportunity will help me become the teacher and translator I've dreamed of being. |
