The AAC recommends using a disability statement at the beginning of syllabi that reflects compliance with The Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in Section 504.

It is both important and empowering that this statement enable students with a disability to engage in open dialogue regarding their learning needs and possible accommodations. Below is an example statement, however, there are many others, some of which might be more suited to your particular course delivery. The AAC is happy to discuss alternatives with you and provide guidance for implementing accommodations.

Students with Disabilities:
If you believe you qualify for course adaptations or special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is your responsibility to contact the Disability Coordinator: Sarah Cox, AB 2, (616) 632-2166 or coxsar@aquinas.edu, and provide the appropriate documentation. If you have already documented a disability or other condition that would qualify you for special accommodations, or if you have emergency medical information or special needs I should know about, you should contact me privately to discuss your specific needs. We can then plan how best to coordinate your accommodations.
