Glenn Barkan, Ph.D., has been a Professor of Political Science since 1973, and Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences since spring, 2004. As Dean, he oversees eighteen academic departments and more than seventy full-time faculty. The Aquinas International Programs and the General Education program also report to his office. |
| Dean Barkan has played an active role in politics, the Grand Rapids community, and the discipline of political science. He is a former member of the Boards of the World Affairs Council, the Office of the Public Defender, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Grand Rapids Planning Commission. Barkan was a Court Appointed Special Advocate and a consultant to the creation of the Grand Valley Metro Council, and the Aquinas-Eastown project. Within the Department of Political Science, Barkan teaches courses in American government and politics and urban affairs. His research and writing have covered a variety of topics, and he is currently working in the area of health care policy. |
