10/12/13 – The women's soccer team picked up a key conference victory as the Saints won on the road at Cornerstone 2-0. The win improved the Saints record to 4-1 in the WHAC and to 8-3 overall, while the Golden Eagles fell to 7-4-1 on the season and to 3-1-1 in league play. The victory has the Saints positioned in second in the WHAC race.
After a heart breaking, double overtime loss to Davenport on Wednesday; the Saints knew they had to have a short memory going into a pivotal match-up with Cornerstone. Coach Fales had his troops focused and ready to play.
The two teams were locked in defensive struggle until Claire Krohn placed the ball over the keepers head to give the Saints the 1-0 lead. Krohn picked the perfect spot to score her first career goal in an Aquinas uniform. An insurance goal was added by Leeann Latsch during the 84 minute of play to ice the 2-0 victory. Latsch's sixth of the season was assisted on by freshman Cami Baker.
Molly O'Connor recorded three saves in the shutout victory as the Saints outshot Cornerstone 12-7.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as Coach Fales looks for his 100th career victory. Aquinas will host Rochester College at 4 p.m.
