Men's Basketball Falls in Home Opener

11/06/2010 – The men's basketball team was defeated by #1 ranked St. Francis (IN) by the score of 53-44 at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. Poor shooting doomed the Saints again as they shot 31% (16-51) from the field and 61% (11-18) from the free throw line. The loss drops the Saints to 0-2 on the season, while the Cougars improved to 2-0.

The Cougars methodically built the lead up to twelve at the intermission, but the Saints quickly responded after the half with a 12-4 run to cut the lead to 33-29. The Saints continued to hang around and give the #1 ranked team in the country everything they had, but just could not quite get over the hump as the Cougars kept the single digit lead the rest of the game.

Statistically the Saints were led by Jamell Hatchett who recorded eleven points, eight rebounds and five steals. The Cougars were paced by Qadr Owens and DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis who scored 17 and ten respectively.

The Saints will look for their first win of the season on Friday night as Aquinas hosts Indiana Wesleyan as part of the WHAC/MCC Challenge which will be contested this year on campus at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
